Deadly Car Crash in Osceola, 3 Killed, 2 Seriously Injured

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is investigating a two-vehicle car crash on Tuesday which left three people dead and two seriously injured, on Poinciana Boulevard and Old Tampa Highway in Osceola County.

According to FHP, a 2002 Ford SUV driven by Jannell Cardenas of Orlando was traveling southbound on Poinciana Boulevard around 12:15 pm on August 24th.  Patrick Mullen, the driver of a 2009 Toyota van was traveling north bound on Poinciana Boulevard when Cardenas lost control of her vehicle and began to travel into the northbound lanes.  The front of Mullen’s vehicle struck the side of Ford SUV, which overturned and caught fire.

Mullen, 42, was with family members on vacation from England. He was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. One of the passengers in the van, Mary Stafford, 62, died from her injuries.  Another passenger, Melanie Mullen, 39, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Osceola Regional Hospital along with Spencer Stafford, 12, and Ruby Mullen, 5, both of whom suffered minor injuries. Ellen Stafford, 9, was unhurt.

Cardenas, 20, and her 1-year-old daughter, Isabella Aquilar, died on the spot.

FHP said that alcohol was not a factor in the deadly crash.   Investigation of the crash is continuing.
