DCF Exposed

The Department of Children and Families (DCF) is pushing back hard on a story produced by 10 News Investigators which said, twelve percent of children in Florida who are in state foster care are prescribed psychotropic drugs. And according to a government accountability report, children in foster care in Florida are about three times more likely to receive psychotropic drugs.

10 News Investigation also revealed that many young children under 12 years of age were given these drugs even though the labels warned that they ought not to be given to children under 12.

It is reported too, that parents called wtsp.com to say they had the same experience as the investigation revealed. Now, DCF Communications Director Joe Follick is hopping mad. He sent an e-mail to 10 News management blasting their story and requesting that those who worked on the expose, not do any more stories on DCF, going forward.

To add ‘insult to injury,’ Republican State Senator Ronda Storms (R-Brandon) is moving a bill (SB 1808) through the state legislature to precisely make it harder for DCF to medicate children in the foster care system. As if DCF is unaware of this!
