A 53-year-old South Daytona man was arrested early Tuesday morning after chemicals commonly used to manufacture methamphetamine were found in a backpack inside his vehicle.
Peter Stanley, the suspect, was driving erratically when Volusia County deputies pulled him over on South Nova Road in South Daytona. Deputies conducted a pat down search of Stanley for officer safety and found two meth pipes in his pocket. A search of his vehicle revealed a backpack containing meth-making chemicals. Deputies said that a bottle of meth oil that is one step away from becoming the final product was found.
Narcotics investigators believe that the quantities of chemicals found indicated that Stanley was using meth mainly for private use.
Stanley was charged with possession and manufacturing of a controlled substance, trafficking in methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia. He was transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach without incident.
