Daytona Cops Nab two members of East Coast Organized Crime Gang

Daytona Beach Police say, two members of an organized gang have been taken into custody, following a burglary at a Best Buy electronics store early on Thursday morning.

Over $45,000 worth of Ipads and other Apple products were stolen from the Best Buy Store at 1900 W. International Speedway Boulevard, and Daytona Beach Police believe that the suspects are part of an organized gang responsible for a string of robberies along the entire East Coast of the United States.

Detectives responded to the Best Buy after a burglary alarm was triggered just before 5:00 a.m. on Thursday. A vehicle was seen traveling fast and erratically on Williamson Boulevard.

Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled and was located in the Ormond Beach area near State Road 40. One male suspect was immediately taken into custody and a second suspect was caught by a K-9.

The suspects in custody are: 23-year-old Gregory A. Smith and 31-year-old David Daniels. Police say, the men face a slew of criminal charges ranging from grand theft of a motor vehicle, burglary and grand theft.

Both Smith and Daniels both have lengthy criminal records and are thought to be affiliated with an organized criminal theft ring, police said.

Police recovered 20 of the stole electronic items, in addition to five stolen vehicles directly related to the Best Buy burglary.

Several law enforcement agencies are heading to Daytona Beach to interview the suspects with the expectation that other crimes that occurred in their jurisdictions will be solved.

At this time, the number of gang members is unclear.

This is a developing story. Check back later for more.
