Dad on the Run with Son, Arrested

Orange County Sheriff’s deputies have apprehended a father who was on the run with his 11-year-old son, following an accidental shooting of another boy two days ago.

At approximately 7:30 PM on January 15th, the Apopka Police Department detained Mr. Robert Lee Hart on an Orange County warrant in relation to the shooting of a 6-year-old that occurred in Apopka two days earlier.  Mr. Hart had his son with him at the time of his arrest.

On Wednesday, deputies had responded to 45 E. 13th Street in Apopka around 3.52 pm, where a 11-year-old boy shot his 6-year-old cousin in the tongue.  Deputies believe that the boys were playing and the gun accidentally went off hitting the younger boy.

The 6-year-old was transported to the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and is expected to be okay.

Following the shooting, Hart, the father and his 11-year-old son, the shooter, fled the scene of the incident and went on the run. Detectives had searched the scene with K-9s looking for Hart and the gun.

Upon being apprehended by the Apopka Police, Hart was interviewed by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Child Abuse detective.  A convicted felon, Hart now faces several charges.

The Department of Children and Families has taken custody of Hart’s son.
