Today, former Republican Gov. Charlie Crist now running as Democrat to retake his old job, has picked his running mate.

Crist named Annette Taddeo-Goldstein, head of Miami-Dade’s Democratic Party, as his running mate for governor.

At a press conference in Miami where the announce was made, Crist called her “a remarkable woman and a classic American success story,” according to news reports.

“As a working mom, a small business owner and a Floridian, I am proud to serve this state that has given me so many opportunities,” Taddeo-Goldstein said.

She added: “Unfortunately, too many people across Florida are feeling left out and behind.”

Taddeo-Goldstein, who is fluent in Spanish, was born in Colombia to an American father and Colombia mother.

Political pundits say, her selection adds a lot of weight to Crist’s ticket in that she is a good fundraiser, will help turn out the Democrats South-Florida base, has run before for office, is well-liked and above all is female.

Crist’s selection of Taddeo-Goldstein comes less than six weeks before a Democratic primary on August 26, where he will face off against former state Senator Nan Rich for the nomination.
