A couple was arrested over the week-end on multiple charges including burglary and dealing in stolen property, after a victim reported the theft of a 2002 black Saturn, authorities said Monday.
29-year-old Aaron Hosack and 20-year-old Amber Jones were arrested in Deltona and booked into the Volusia County Jail, according to a Volusia County Sheriff’s Office statement.
Hosack, of Orange City and Jones, of Osteen, were charged with grand theft, burglary, dealing in stolen property, petty theft, possessing stolen credit cards, among other charges.
The investigation started with a routine report Friday morning of a car stolen out of the victim’s driveway in Deltona.
Investigators said, about six hours later the victim called 911 from a bus to report seeing the stolen black, 2002 Saturn traveling on Saxon Boulevard in Orange City. Responding deputies spotted the vehicle on Enterprise Road and followed it into Deltona, where the driver pulled into a driveway near DeBary Avenue and Clark Street.
Investigators immediately detained the occupants, later identified as Hosack and Jones.
Jones had two of the victim’s bank cards on her and Hosack had several bank cards taken in another vehicle burglary in Deltona.
Jones told investigators that the pair were breaking into vehicles in the Deltona area when Hosack came across the black Saturn, unlocked and with the keys inside. The two got in and drove off with Hosack behind the wheel.
Investigators learned that the duo drove to New Smyrna Beach to try to purchase drugs, but couldn’t find any. Next, they broke into a house in the area and stole property that included a laptop computer, a printer and a flat screen T.V. Investigators also say, Hosack and Jones had some of that stolen property when they were arrested in Deltona.
New Smyrna Beach Police were called in to file charges on the burglary in their jurisdiction, investigators said.
