A Florida couple have been arrested, accused of animal cruelty after investigators turned up nearly 300 animals in their home.
Yesterday, authorities went to a home in Oldsman, Florida, where 28-year-old Jeffrey O’Neil and 26-year-old Jennifer Kovacs lived, following a report that a 16-month-old toddler was missing.
According to news reports, O’Neil and Kovacs were drunk and wasn’t even aware of a note in the home that indicated a family member had removed the child.
Authorities found nearly 300 animals, including snakes, rabbits, rats, dogs, lizards and hedge hogs, among others, when they arrived.
Investigators described the situation as one of “animal hoarding,” and a home full of dirty cages, with an overwhelming smell.
O’Neil and Kovacs were charged with child abuse and animal cruelty. They were booked into the Pinellas County Jail.
