A couple who had sex on Bradenton Beach last July was found guilty on Monday and could face up to 15 years in prison.
According to the Bradenton Herald, Jose Caballero, 40, and Elissa Alvarez, 20, were found guilty on two counts each of lewd and lascivious behavior for having sex on a public beach July 20, 2014.
The couple claimed they were not actually having sex, but it took a jury only 15 minutes to find them guilty.
Both Caballero and Alvarez now have to register as sex offenders as the crime happened in front of children.
April Champ, a grandmother, who video taped the couple, told the court that she was outraged as she saw the two “moving like they were having sex,” although she admitted not seeing penetration or genitals.
Assistant State Attorney Anthony Dafonseca said Caballero is looking at serving the maximum sentence of 15 years in prison. He has a prior conviction for cocaine-trafficking, according to the Herald.
Plea deals were offered to the couple, but they rejected them.
A sentencing date has not yet been announced.
