Two armed intruders posing as law enforcement officers, bound up a couple on Thursday night near DeLand, before making off with money and jewelry, Volusia County deputies said.
The victims, an 82-year-old man and his 63-year-old wife, told investigators that two men dressed in black came to their residence on Lake Mamie Road off U.S. Highway 17 north of Deland, and tricked them into thinking they were law enforcement officers. Once inside, the men, one of whom carried a firearm, proceeded to bind the victims’ hands and feet. The men told the pair they were looking for someone who was on the loose.
The intruders stole money and jewelry, including a ring that the man was wearing and a necklace from the woman’s neck.
Although emotionally shaken, investigators said, the victims were uninjured.
The suspects have not been identified and the investigation is ongoing.
