A St. Cloud woman was shot and killed by police after she assaulted officers with a firearm and refused to comply with law enforcement.
24-year-old Elba Luz Cartagena was pronounced dead at St. Cloud Regional Medical Center on Wednesday night, after police shot her when she confronted them with a firearm.
Police responded to 431 Tennessee Avenue in connection with a civil disturbance around 9:30 p.m., where investigators said, Cartagena had fired a handgun into the residence.
Police said, Cartagena fled the scene on foot and while attempting to apprehend her, she resisted. Police also said, she refused to comply with the officers’ commands and assaulted law enforcement with her firearm.
Police fired on Cartagena who was pronounced deceased at the St. Cloud Regional Medical Center.
The officers involved in the shooting are, Sergeant Jared Daniel, a six year veteran with the St Cloud Police Department, and Officer John Nettles, a seven year veteran with the St Cloud Police Department.
Police said that Cartagena has a criminal history which included arrests for possession of marijuana, carrying a concealed weapon and vehicle theft and larceny.
