Cops: DNA Evidence Links Man to 14 Burglaries

A man, believed to be responsible for a string of burglaries, of property valued at more than $10,000, has been arrested Sanford police say.

Authorities arrested 41-year-old William Gerod Cauthen after DNA evidence linked him to at least 14 burglaries.

Police also say, Cauthen’s first burglary dates back to September 2009. Cauthen even burglarized a Sanford church in the Georgetwon area stealing over $4,000 worth of property, most of which was later found and returned to the church.

Investigators processed the respective crime scenes, collected blood evidence, fingerprints and photos and were able to link them all back to Cauthen.

Cauthen committed burglaries in Orange and Seminole Counties.

Police arrested Cauthen on January 25, 2012. He is currently in the John E. Polk Correctional Facility, without bond.
