Although Orange County Public Schools’ Construction Division earlier this month was accused of waste and mis-management by an independent audit, on Tuesday, the School Board reported that another school renovation project had come in $1.6 million under budget.
Conway Middle School, a Comprehensive Needs Project, which saw classroom buildings, science labs, the media center and the school administration suite renovated, came in $1,653,578 under budget.
The scope of work of the project also included, new band and chorus rooms, locker room, new kitchen and dining/multi-purpose room/stage, as part of the new design. Other site improvements were a new parent drop-off loop with visitor parking, new student courtyards, covered walkways, and upgraded utility infrastructure.
Originally budgeted at $26,385,718, the final project cost came in at $24,732,140, according to a statement from the Orange County Public Schools.
Just perhaps the project was over-budget in the first instance!
