University officials, local politicians, developers and contractors gathered in Winter Park Friday for the groundbreaking of the new Alfond Inn at Rollins College.
Located at the former Langford Hotel site and just one block from campus and Park Avenue, the Alfond Inn will be a 100,000-square- foot facility with 112 guest rooms, 8,000 sq.-ft. of ballroom and meeting space, an iconic conservatory, signature restaurant, elevated pool deck, bar, fitness center and a series of courtyards.
The $12.5 million hotel will also serve as guest lodging to both Rollins and the greater Winter Park community, and will enable Rollins to host events and attract professional and academic conferences that cannot currently be accommodated on campus.
Award-winning Barrio Architects, Inc. and Atlanta-based Hardin Construction make up the design and construction team on this project.
Rollins anticipates adding 200 interim and 100 permanent full-time jobs to the local workforce, with project opening slated for spring 2013.
Local politicians in attendance at the groundbreaking included Winter Park Mayor Ken Bradley and benefactors of the Alfond family, Ted and Peter Alfond.
