Brown, who met with Sanford Mayor Jeff Triplett today, have both agreed to request the Department of Justice to handle review the case.

On Wednesday, before a community meeting, Triplett indicated he had requested the Department of Justice to review the matter.

Martin, a 17-year-old unarmed black teen, was shot and killed by a gun-toting neighborhood watch member,  George Zimmerman, in a gated community in Sanford.

Since the shooting on February 26, Zimmerman has not been charged. He told investigators that he acted in self-defense when he shot Martin.

On the evening of February 26, Zimmerman had called 911 to report that a suspicious person, who later turned out to be Martin, was seen at The Retreat at Twin Lakes Townhomes.

Police confirmed at the time of Zimmerman’s call, he was told by a dispatcher not to follow the person and that a police officer was on the way to the location.

Sanford police said they would release the 911 tapes surrounding the incident later on Friday.
