Pearson Education, the contractor whose program glitches led to major delays in reporting the FCAT results, made a public apology to State Board of Education members Tuesday at their meeting in Tallahassee.
Douglas Kubach, group president and chief executive officer for assessment and information, apologized for the company’s errors related to the FCAT and presented the board with a memo outlining fixes the company had made to ensure that the glitches did not repeat themselves next year.
Board members were gracious in their comments to Kubach and applauded Person’s efforts to correct the problems, but they pointed out that under no circumstances should it happen again.
“You know you look at a value brand and you look at the integrity and damage it caused, it cannot be repeated,” said board member Kathleen Shanahan.
State Education Commissioner Eric Smith said that the Department of Education is still working with local districts to determine total costs associated with the delay in the FCAT results.
