The re-constituted Orange County Domestic Violence Commission, under the leadership of Mayor Teresa Jacobs, will hold its first meeting on Friday, February 8th at 8:30 a.m. in the Orange County Board of County Commissioners’ chambers, 201 S. Rosalind Avenue in downtown Orlando.

Co-Chaired by Dick Batchelor and Circuit Judge Alice Blackwell, the group will develop new strategies to combat the growing domestic violence problem in Orange County.

The meeting is open to the public and will be carried live on Orange TV. Check your cable provider for channel or watch the live stream at www.orangetvfl.net.

Every year, 1 out of every 3 female homicide victims is murdered by her current or former partner. In 2011, law enforcement in Orange County handled 8,500 911 calls for domestic violence incidents. Over the past 12 months, there were 27 domestic violence deaths. That means one person is murdered every two weeks in this community as a result of domestic violence.

  1. I wish it were possible to teach every little girl that she is special and valuable, so that when she begins dating she would know that under no circumstance,NO ONE EVER has the right to physically or emotionally abuse her. It is important to teach all girls how to value themselves so much that the first time a man ever spoke to them in an inappropriate manner, it would be the last, and they would leave the relationship and never look back.
