Clinton to meet with Caribbean Leaders in Barbados

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton flew to Barbados on Wednesday, following her swing through Latin America which began with her participation at the General Assembly of the Organization of Americas (OAS) in Lima, Peru.  Following the two-day meeting which concluded on June 8, Secretary Clinton traveled to Quito, Ecuador and then Bogota, Columbia where she consulted with regional partners on issues of shared interest.

On Thursday, Secretary Clinton will meet with Barbadian Government officials and then on Friday with Caribbean foreign ministers and government leaders to discuss the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative, health issues, including the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief and energy and climate change.

Clinton’s visit to Barbados follows a recent meeting in Washington convened to discuss the Administration’s effort to work with Caribbean countries to address the problems of crime and violence and narco-trafficking that plague these countries.

Secretary Clinton’s visit to the island country is the last stop in her Latin American and Caribbean tour that began last Sunday.
