The Florida Civil Rights Association today called on Sanford City Manager Norton Bonaparte to remove any and all photos of suspended Police Chief Bill Lee from the Police website and department.

But, on March 22, Lee informed the public that his role as police chief had become a “distraction” and stepped down temporarily over the Trayvon Martin death investigation.
“The City has grossly failed the people of Sanford by allowing photos of suspended Police Chief Bill Lee to remain posted on city property after a vote of no confident,” said Florida Civil Rights Association President J. Willie David, III. “Chief Lee’s photos should have been immediately removed once the City Manager Bonaparte named Captain Darren Scott Interim Police Chief of Sanford Police Department.”
David added that winning public trust and confidence starts with community involvement, change in police leadership, policies, and procedures and that Interim Chief Scott is the new face of Sanford police leadership.
“The City needs to implement this change until a permanent police chief is sworn in by Sanford Mayor,” he said. “The idea that such a small slight to the interim chief is another sign of the culture of indifference to minorities within the Sanford community by the Police Department and a lack of oversight by city officials.”
I think sanford comissioners need to remove all photos of ex cheif bill lee and i think the city manager needs to be fired. Because he did take quick actions once this crime toke place. Once the city manager new that the murder was not in jail he should of suspend the cheif until the state finsh the investagation. The city manager can not run sanford his Emergency response time is slow to the community.The city needs to plan now as they rebuild there community so this wil not happen again. Get the city manager out as well and lets rebuild a new and improve sanford florida
