Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and District 5 Commissioner Daisy W. Lynum announced today that the City will host a community meeting on August 15, 2013 for certified minority and women business enterprises (MWBE) who are interested in bidding for Florida Citrus Bowl reconstruction contracts.
Several contractors for the $175 million renovation project will be on hand to discuss subcontractor opportunities. The community meeting is scheduled for 6-8pm at the Florida Citrus Bowl’s Varsity Club room, and light refreshments will be served.
“This kind of informal event gives local business owners a chance to talk one-on-one with contractors who are actively seeking qualified MWBEs for the reconstruction,” said Dyer.
Demolition of the famed stadium will begin in late January or early February of 2014, and by the time reconstruction is complete in 2015, 80 percent of the Florida Citrus Bowl will be new, with state-of-the-art amenities and a distinctive fresh look.
“There are so many opportunities for our local companies,” said Lynum. “As we have with the Amway Center and the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, the City is committed to a strong presence by minority-owned firms in the Citrus Bowl reconstruction.”
Parramore residents who will be impacted by the Citrus Bowl reconstruction are also invited to attend the community meeting. Job seekers will have a chance to register with the City’s BLUEPRINT Employment Office for opportunities connected with the reconstruction as well as in other industries.
