The son of an Orlando City Commissioner is accusing Orlando Police Department of civil rights violations as well as a cover up.
Police pulled over Juan Lynum in February. The last time he protested a traffic stop, his mother, called the police chief. This time, he wrote the police chief and the mayor telling them he should have never been pulled over in the first place.
In the letter, Lynum says the officer told him he was going 35 miles per hour in a 25 miles per hour zone. He says the officer asked him for his license and then let him go with a verbal warning. In the letter, Lynum accuses the officer of racial profiling.
“I was not traveling at that speed, and there was no way for the officer to determine my speed. The officer presumes he will get away with racial profiling tactics because he let the innocent citizen go,” Lynum wrote.
