City Approves Millions for Streetscape Project

The Church St. Streetscape project got an added boost today with Orlando City commissioners approving agreements providing for pedestrian and vehicular upgrades. The improvements would be undertaken from Division Avenue downtown to the Citrus Bowl on Tampa Avenue.

With federal grant funds of over $12.5 million, the project would include upgrades to existing pavements, widening sidewalks on both sides, new street lighting, undergrounding of existing overhead utilities, a faux bridge at the new Parramore Heritage Park, upgrades to stormwater collection systems, “Lymmo” type service lanes to the Citrus Bowl, landscaping and irrigation and other aesthetic improvements.

Construction is expected to get underway in October, after bids go out in early June and will be undertaken in two phases. Phase 1 (East Phase) is from Division to Westmoreland and Phase 2 (West Phase) is from Westmoreland to Tampa.   Project construction is estimated at about one year for each phase.

The grant is being administered by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).
