The first group of the rescued Chilean miners and their families arrived at Orlando International Airport (MCO) Thursday afternoon. Upon touchdown, the Copa Airlines flight was met with a water salute from the airport’s Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighters (ARFF).
Immediately following their recovery after being trapped in a Chilean mine for 69 days last year, Disney’s President and CEO Bob Iger extended an invitation for the miners to visit Walt Disney World, and now all 33 miners and their families are in town to enjoy a much needed vacation.
The miners stepped into the terminal amid the applause of other MCO passengers and will serve as grand marshals for a special parade at the Magic Kingdom theme park.
