A four-year-old child drowned today in the Banana River in the area of “Ski Island,” Port Canaveral police say.
About 2:00 p.m., police were called and a Port Canaveral Police Department Marine Office and a Fire Fighter/EMT from Canaveral Fire Rescue responded to the scene through the Canaveral Locks.
A boater had brought the child onboard his vessel by the time the team arrived.
Life saving measures were performed on the vessel and the child was brought to shore where additional attempts were made. The child was transported to Cape Canaveral Hospital where the victim was pronounced dead.
Police have not released the identity of the child and the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
