The Florida Lottery recently announced that William Palm, of Port Charlotte, claimed a $1 million top prize from the Millionaire Maker scratch-off game.
The Charlotte County man chose to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $640,000.00
Palm turned $5 into $1 million when he purchased his winning ticket from Winn-Dixie, located at 3280 Tamiami Trail in Port Charlotte. The retailer received a $2,000 bonus commission for selling the winning scratch-off ticket.
The Southwest Florida winner claimed the prize at Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee.
The $5 scratch-off game, MILLIONAIRE MAKER, launched in May and features six top prizes of $1 million. This game offers more than $79.3 million in total cash prizes.
The game’s overall odds of winning are 1-in-3.87.
Scratch-off games are an important part of the Lottery’s portfolio of games, comprising approximately 74 percent of ticket sales in fiscal year 2023-2024. Additionally, since inception, scratch-off games have awarded more than $63.1 billion in prizes, created 2,175 millionaires, and generated more than $19.24 billion for the state’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF).
The Florida Lottery is responsible for contributing more than $47 billion to enhance education and sending more than 983,000 students to college through the Bright Futures Scholarship Program. The Florida Lottery reinvests 99 percent of its revenue into Florida’s economy through prize payouts, commissions to more than 13,600 Lottery retailers, and transfers to education.
