Charlie Crist, Once Thought Invincible, Stumbles

Governor Charlie Crist must be beating himself up for so strongly supporting President Barack Obama’s Stimulus Plan earlier this year. Or maybe he didn’t endorse that particular plan; rather another Stimulus Plan, that was never passed.  Once the people’s governor, Crist has seen his popularity plummet and now he must face off against his rival Marco Rubio, the former state House speaker, in the upcoming GOP primary, in his quest to become the next U.S. senator from Florida.

POLITICO: “Charlie Crist is a remarkable natural politician who has had enormous success at the ballot box over time. However, there is a sense among some Republicans out there that he has lost his mojo,” said Rick Wilson, a Florida Republican strategist.

In another apparent effort to distance himself from Obama, who is extremely unpopular with the GOP grass roots, Crist went so far as to deny that he knew the president was in Jacksonville on Oct. 26 — even though published e-mails would later show that Crist’s staff was made aware of Obama’s visit three days earlier.
