Central Florida Stabbing Suspect Jumped from Overpass, Almost Hit by Semi-Truck

A Central Florida stabbing suspect jumped from an overpass to avoid arrest, and landed on I-275 where he was almost hit by a semi-truck.

Tampa Police recently responded to the Trails at Hunters Village Apartments, located at 8500 Hunters Village Rd., for the report of a stabbing. Officers arrived to find an adult female with multiple injuries and significant blood loss. She was transported as a trauma alert by Tampa Fire Rescue to a nearby hospital to be treated for her injuries. Thankfully, she was listed in stable condition.

According to local law enforcement, 31-year-old Thomas Sapp, who is known to the victim, was quickly identified as the suspect. Detectives immediately began working to locate and apprehend him.

Members of the Tampa Police Department, working in partnership with the U.S. Marshals Task Force, identified a possible location for Sapp.

Just before 11:30am, Sapp was spotted in a car on County Line Rd over I-275. Officers worked to stop traffic and limit public interaction.

Before officers could interact with him, Sapp jumped from the overpass, landing on I-275 and narrowly avoided being run over by a semi-truck.

Sapp, who suffered serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, will be charged with Attempted Murder. He was being treated and was listed in stable condition.
