Central Florida police officers with KKK ties fired, after being outed

KKKfinalAfter their ties to the Ku Klux Klan were unmasked last week, two police officers in central Florida are no longer with the Fruitland Park Police Department.

Deputy Chief David Borst resigned and Officer George Hunnewell was fired last Friday, according to Fruitland Park City Manager, Gary La Venia.

Borst and Hunnewell were named as members of the KKK in a Florida Department of Law Enforcement report, based on information provided from the FBI.

Hunnewell’s ex-wife, Anne, who worked as a secretary at the Police Department admitted in an interview with FDLE, that she along with her husband were sworn in to the KKK sometime in 2008 or 2009, according to a FDLE report obtained by Local 6.  However, she claimed that they never paid member dues or attended meetings.

The State Attorney is reviewing all cases handled by Borst and Hunnewell to determine whether charges might have been racially motivated, according to news reports.
