Central Florida Man Convicted of Carjacking, Murder after Vehicle Launched into Air

A Central Florida man was convicted of carjacking and murder after he ran a red light, crashed and launched another vehicle into the air that flipped several times.




After a three-day trial, a Volusia County jury found defendant Latravius Jacobs guilty as charged of First-Degree Murder, Vehicular Homicide, Carjacking, and Burglary of a Conveyance.

On December 14, 2023, Jacobs stole a vehicle from a man while armed with a gun in the parking lot of a Daytona Beach motel.

About three minutes after the carjacking, Latravius Jacobs ran a red light at Mason and Ridgewood Avenue at 91 MPH and crashed into another vehicle.

The vehicle launched into the air and flipped several times. The victim died from his injuries at the scene.

The Daytona Beach Police Department investigated the case. Assistant State Attorneys Ashley McCarthy and Paiton Mizelle successfully tried the case for the State of Florida.
