A Central Florida man was arrested for stealing a fire engine and causing a hit-and-run crash.
Tampa Police officers quickly recovered the stolen fire engine and arrested the suspect after the incident.
Preliminary information suggested that at approximately 9:25am, 59-year-old Warren Scudder stole the local fire engine while firefighters were inside St. Joseph’s Hospital. According to local law enforcement, Scudder drove off, crashing into a gray Lexus SUV near Dr. King Blvd and MacDill Ave.
The adult male driver of the Lexus reported hip pain following the collision and was medically evaluated by hospital staff.
Tampa Police Officers were immediately dispatched and quickly located the stolen vehicle. By 9:38am, officers successfully surrounded and blocked the engine’s path in the 4100 block of Poplar Ave.
Scudder was taken into custody without further incident. He was charged with Grand Theft Auto and Hit & Run.
This remains an active investigation, according to local law enforcement.
