A Central Florida inmate death was investigated at Pinellas County jail recently.
Pinellas County Sheriff’s detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Unit are investigating the death of 65-year-old Paul Dechene.
Detectives say Dechene was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on July 11, 2025 by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office for one count of Violation of Pre-Trial Release (Domestic Violence).
According to detectives, on September 16, 2025, at approximately 8:44am, Dechene was found unresponsive on his bed. Detention and medical staff attempted to perform life-saving measures. Dechene was pronounced deceased at 9:29am.
The investigation at the time of releasing information found no evidence that Dechene was involved in any physical altercations or sustained any injuries while incarcerated at the jail.
Dechene’s next of kin has been notified.
The deceased inmate investigation continues, according to local law enforcement.
