Central Florida Drug Dealer Arrested in Undercover Buy-Bust

An East Volusia drug dealer selling fentanyl was arrested following an undercover investigation in Central Florida.

This month, members of the VSO Overdose Task Force and the East Volusia Narcotics Task Force set up a buy-bust with local drug dealer Dexter Tolbert at Family Dollar at 780 S. Nova Road in Ormond Beach.

When Tolbert realized he was caught, he took off running but was apprehended a short distance away.

Detectives recovered about 3.5 grams fentanyl, 5 grams crack cocaine and other evidence. A loaded handgun was found attached to a magnet underneath Tolbert’s steering wheel.

Tolbert, who was released from prison in May after serving time for carjacking and armed robbery, was arrested on charges of sale of fentanyl, possession of fentanyl with intent to sell, possession of cocaine with intent to sell, possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon, resisting an officer without violence, possession of narcotic paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license and unlawful use of a 2-way communication device to facilitate a felony.

He was taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail with no bond on the firearm and ammunition charges.

The Overdose Task Force is a VSO initiative dedicated to follow-up investigations of drug overdose deaths in Volusia County. The East Volusia Narcotics Task Force is a joint effort between members of VSO and Central Florida law enforcement including the Ormond Beach Police Department, Holly Hill Police Department, Port Orange Police Department, South Daytona Police Department, City of Edgewater Police Department and New Smyrna Beach Police Department.
