A Central Florida Congressman issued information on what to do if approached by ICE.
Democratic Representative Darren Soto put out a “know your rights” document with what to do if approached by ICE or police, if ICE agents come to your home, and if you are arrested or detained.
“It’s important for Central Floridians to ‘Know Your Rights.’ We see increased ICE activity in Central Florida and across America,” Congressman Darren Soto posted. “Many local citizens’ family members have been picked up despite legitimate asylum and visa claims. For legal questions, please consult an attorney.”
The Florida Democrat, who is being targeted by Republicans as a seat to flip in Congress, stated in his document that “you DO NOT have to reveal your immigration status and have the right to remain silent.” Rep. Soto’s document also noted that a “deportation warrant is NOT the same as a search warrant and does NOT authorize ICE agents to enter your home without permission.”
Rep. Soto said if ICE enters without a valid warrant, ask for agents’ names and badge numbers.
The National Republican Congressional Committee targeted the Central Florida Democrat on immigration saying Rep. Soto is siding with chaos, lawlessness, and violent criminal illegal aliens over the safety of Floridians.
“Out of touch Democrats like Darren Soto are committed to abolishing ICE, openly endorsing lawlessness and putting Florida communities at risk to satisfy their radical base,” said NRCC Spokesman Maureen O’Toole. “Faced with a choice, Darren Soto didn’t hesitate, he chose radical ideology over public safety.”
