Ahead of the Republicans’ Freedom Summit, Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried and Central Florida Congressman Darren Soto held a press call slamming Donald Trump and the 2024 Republican Presidential field.
The Democrats made the attacks as Republican candidates prepared to take the stage at the “Florida Freedom Summit” in Kissimmee. Chair Fried and Congressman Soto highlighted how the GOP’s extreme, anti-freedom agenda is stripping away fundamental rights in Florida and across the country.
“Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis and the rest of the presidential contenders are coming to town to see who can win ‘best in show’ in the extreme MAGA competition this weekend…They’re agents of chaos, and Florida families can’t afford it,” said Congressman Darren Soto, a Democrat. “When we think about our president, Joe Biden, it’s about progress, and it’s about stability during these uncertain times…It’s been chaos versus stability. It’s been taking away rights versus defending our freedoms. And I’m proud to serve under President Biden.”
The Florida Democratic Party Chair also took aim at Florida’s Republican Governor in addition to Trump.
“Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis have worked overtime to roll back our rights: the right to make our own health care decisions, to the right to be safe in our communities, and to our children’s rights to learn their full history in school,” said Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried. “We must reelect President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris to defend and restore the rights that Republicans have been rolling back. … That’s the choice Florida voters will have in 2024 — a country run by extremists who spend their time rolling back our freedoms, or a country where our leaders will take us forward.”
Ron DeSantis spoke at the GOP event and then officially filed for candidacy in the Republican presidential primary in Florida. President Donald Trump closed out the Florida Republican Party’s Freedom Summit in Central Florida.
