A Central Florida career criminal was sentenced for a home burglary.
After a full-day trial, a Volusia County jury recently found defendant Michael King guilty as charged of Burglary while Armed. Immediately following the verdict, the defendant was sentenced to life in prison as a Prison Releasee Reoffender and Habitual Felony Offender.
King broke into a Daytona Beach home in March 2025. A witness saw him inside and called 911.
When Daytona Beach Police arrived, they searched the defendant and located a knife in his pocket. It was later determined that the knife belonged to the homeowner and had been stolen from inside the home.
The homeowner initially told officers that money was missing from his bedroom. They searched the defendant’s backpack and recovered several additional items stolen from the bedroom, along with a ski mask and gloves, which did not belong to the homeowner.
“Another career criminal off our streets for good,” State Attorney R.J. Larizza said about the case. “Your prosecutors are committed to protecting you and your family. Let them know you appreciate their efforts the next time you cross their path.”
The Daytona Beach Police Department investigated the Central Florida case. Assistant State Attorney Amie Assent successfully tried the case for the State of Florida. The Honorable Kathleen McNeilly presided over the case and pronounced sentence.
