Central Florida Boy Scouts Go “Scouting for Food”

Boy Scouts “Scouting for Food”

With the holidays fast approaching, the Central Florida Council, Boy Scouts of America is going “Scouting for Food” tomorrow, Saturday, November 10th. This service project helps provide food to those in need this holiday season.

Last Saturday, November 3rd, thousands of Boy Scouts in seven counties throughout Central Florida canvassed their neighborhoods, placing “Scouting for Food” bags on front doors. Instructions on the bag asked residents to place non-perishable food items in the bag and place the bag outside their door on the following Saturday, November 10th, prior to 8:00 a.m.

The collected food will be distributed to those in need through the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida and other local food banks. All the food collected stays in the community and is distributed at no cost to food banks.

According to Dave Krepcho, Executive Director of Second Harvest Food Bank, “The demand for food remains high. With people out of work and many homeless families, “Scouting for Food” is critical because it replenishes the food shelves in our warehouses and brings much needed relief to thousands of families during the holiday season.” In fact, more than 100- agencies are already scheduled to pick up food from the Second Harvest Food Bank on Monday.

“Scouting for Food” is the single largest food-drive in Central Florida. Last year, Scouts collected more than 550,000 pounds of food, providing more than 400,000 meals.

  1. I am trying to inform the boy scouts that are collecting food in the Ocoee area Saturday, that White/Orlando road will be closed from 7:30-10am for a 5k race. This will cut off access to all the neighborhoods along this road.
