Central Florida Armed Robbery Suspect, Known Gang Member Arrested

A Central Florida armed robbery suspect and known gang member was arrested after stealing more than $2,000 worth of cigarettes from a Walgreens in Tampa.

On June 28th, just before 1pm, 28-year-old Malcolm Green entered the Walgreens, located at 12211 West Hillsborough Ave, and walked behind the counter. Green approached the clerk, lifted his shirt, removed a large plastic bag, and displayed a gun with an extended magazine.

With his hand on the gun, he instructed the victim to stay quiet and not move. The suspect proceeded to remove numerous cartons of cigarettes and placed them in the bag. He then jumped over the counter and fled on foot to a grey Toyota Camry.

Through investigative means, detectives were able to locate the vehicle at the Family Dollar located at 10404 North Nebraska Ave. Upon arrival, Green attempted to evade capture from HCSO deputies and Tampa Police officers by driving over a parking curb but got stuck after striking a citizen’s vehicle and a pillar in front of the store. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also responded to the scene.

“Despite the suspect’s brazen actions and reckless endangerment of our community during his crime spree, he was no match for teamHCSO,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Together, with the ATF and the Tampa Police Department, we were able to bring this individual into custody. He will now have to answer for his actions and face the consequences of the danger he posed to our residents.”

Green was arrested and is facing a Robbery with a Firearm charge. Green was found to have an active federal warrant for Escape and is on federal probation for Possession of a Weapon.

The investigation is ongoing, according to local law enforcement.
