Trayvon Martin’s parents have settled a wrongful death claim for an amount in excess of $1 million against a Florida homeowners association where their teen son was killed, according to Fox News.

Martin, then 17, was shot and killed by George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer, as he returned to his neighborhood in a gated community on the evening of February 26.

Zimmerman has claimed that he was attacked by Martin and shot the teen in self-defense.  Zimmerman was eventually charged with second degree murder.

The precise amount of the settlement is unknown.

Mark O’Mara, Zimmerman’s attorney said the teen’s parents tried to settle through mediation and the homeowners association had offered $1 million, but this was rejected, according to news reports.

A hearing during which Zimmerman will argue he shot Martin in self-defense is scheduled for April and a tentative trial date has been set for June 10th.
