Car Crashes into Rear of School Bus

The driver of a Ford vehicle that failed to stop on KOA Street near Marigold in Osceola County, caused another vehicle to crash into the rear of a school bus just before 8:00 am on Thursday, Florida Highway Patrol said.

Derek Pereira, 36, of Kissimmee was traveling eastbound on KOA Street when he ran into the rear of a Nissan driven by Jorge Torres Fernandez, 35 years.  The Nissan which was stopped in traffic on KOA Street near Marigold, was then propelled forward, striking the back of the school bus, which was also stopped in traffic.

The school bus was being driven by Joseph Boutin, 59, from Kissimmee.

Pereira told troopers that the glare from the sun blocked his vision and he could not see the roadway, causing him to crash into the rear of the Nissan.

Fernandez, the driver of the Nissan suffered minor injuries.

Pereira was charged with careless driving.  He had no proof of registration, troopers said.
