Orange County Sheriff’s deputies and Florida Highway Patrol are continuing their investigation into a shooting incident that led to a car crash on north Kirkman Road, early on Sunday morning. One person was critically injured, while three others sustained serious injuries.
According to investigators, multiple calls were received in relation to shots fired and a vehicle accident around 3:00 am on Sunday morning at 300 north Kirkman Road and West Central.
When deputies arrived they found that a black Cadillac which was traveling north on Kirkman Road had jumped the median and collided with a red Toyota traveling southbound on Kirkman Road. Deputies said that one victim was trapped inside the Toyota, while three other victims from that car were located at the crash scene.
The Toyota was being driven by Huy V. Nguyen, 21, of Orlando. The other passengers were: a female, Thao Thai, 21; Afri Chang, 27; and Mario Javier, 20, all of Orlando. Nguyen was taken to the Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition. Thai and Chang sustained serious injuries, while Javier suffered minor injuries.
Witnesses told investigators that it appeared as though unknown suspects in another vehicle, possibly a silver mini van, had opened fire on the black Cadillac.
It is not clear if the occupants of the Cadillac returned fire.
The occupants of the Cadillac, two black males, along with the driver, fled the scene following the crash, investigators said.
While on the scene investigating the shooting incident, Health Central Hospital reported to investigators that, two subjects, presumably from the black Cadillac, arrived at their emergency room with injuries.
Corey Ferguson, 20, turned up at Health Central, with minor injuries. Rickey Teague, 23, also went to the the Health Central emergency room, with a gun shot wound. The whereabouts of the driver of the Cadillac are unknown at this time.
At daybreak, investigators were able to locate a blood trail that led them from the accident scene to a nearby elementary school where they located at least one bullet hole believed to be associated with the shooting. It is unknown at this time, how many shots were fired.
A Sheriff’s helicopter was also on the scene this morning assisting in the search for the suspect’s vehicle, but met with negative results.
Deputies are continuing with their investigation of the shooting. It is not clear yet whether the shooting is gang-related.
Troopers are also continuing to investigate the crash and charges are pending.
This sounds awful.. Why do people like this in Orlando have to make poor decisions and give us a bad reputation for the area? I couldn’t imagine another car coming across the median and commencing fire.. definitely a failure to warn.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this horrible tragedy
Please keep Huy(kevins) family in your prayers… He passed away this morning.. He was an amazing guy and will definitely be missed. His Girlfriend Thao and the other guys in the car are fine.. LIfe is so precious.. It is so sad that great people suffer because of other stupid peoples mistakes!
