Mike Cantone, candidate for Mayor of Orlando, released a new web video today calling current Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer a puppet of the Orlando Chamber.
Included in the video are stats that show Dyer’s disturbing relationship with the chamber as the Orlando City Commission voted to give the chamber almost $63,000 of tax payer money for an entrepreneur academy.
Cantone notes that the Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce gave their full support to Dyer once the $63,000 deal was reached. Because of that type of back scratching Cantone believes that it is time for new leadership in Orlando.
“Rick Scott, Dean Cannon and Mayor Dyer have all hurt the people of Orlando by following marching orders from the Chamber of Commerce,” Cantone commented in his release.
Dyer is a filed member of the Democratic Party but as Cantone points out in his video and presser, Dyer willingly gave his full support to current Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives Dean Cannon, a Republican. Dyer had the chance to support Democrat Amy Mercado in her bid to un-seat Cannon in 2010, but decided against it.
Dyer has been on the receiving end of many pokes from those involved with the Democratic Party locally. He came under fire for his support of the arrest of those who chose to feed the homeless in Downtown Orlando and Dyer has received criticism for his treatment of the Occupy Orlando movement as well.
