A man who stole a Cadillac but had no money to put gas in the vehicle was apprehended on Tuesday, Eustis police say.
Allen H. Summerall was arrested yesterday, after he was found with a Cadillac Key fob belonging to a red 2009 Cadillac. The vehicle had been stolen from an unoccupied residence in the 1200 block of Overlook Drive on Monday.
Residents in the Clay Boulevard and Overlook Road areas told investigators that an unidentified man was knocking on doors asking for gas money. Police later found the stolen Cadillac parked on Clay Boulevard with the engine still warm and almost out of gas.
Police believe Summerall gained access to the unoccupied residence by throwing a patio block through the window. He then removed several items, including bedding, a shovel and lamp and a second set of car keys. The missing items were found in the stolen Cadillac when he was taken into custody.
Summerall was charged with several crimes including burglary, grand theft of a motor vehicle, criminal mischief and throwing a deadly missile into an unoccupied dwelling.
