More than 150 teachers in Broward County have been requested to return $193,551 that was accidentally paid to them in the form of a salary increase, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
According to the paper, some of those teachers have since left or were laid off.
Broward County have been one of those reeling from the cuts in funding from the state and less revenue from property taxes.
Over 1,000 teachers were laid off by the district this year.
The error was discovered in an internal audit, following complaints from teachers, the Sun-Sentinel reports.
The district did not reveal how much each teacher owes, although one who spoke to the paper said, it was between $300 and $400.
