The brother of Knicks basketball player, Amar’e Stoudemire died at the scene of a crash on US Highway 27 early on Monday morning.
35-year-old Hazell Stoudemire, speeding north on US -27, crashed into the back of a tractor trailer in Lake Wales, authorities said.
Troopers believe Stoudemire was attempting to overtake the tractor trailer when he collided with the rear of the trailer being towed.
Stoudemire was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was killed instantly.
Troopers say, toxicology results are being awaited to determine whether or not alcohol played a role in the crash.
Amar’e Stoudemire was en route to Lake Wales, nydailynews.com reports. He will miss Monday’s game against the Utah Jazz at Madison Square Garden.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
