Brightline Reaches Halfway Mark for Extension to Orlando

High-speed rail from south Florida is coming to Orlando International Airport (MCO) and the entire region as construction moves forward. Local leaders are hoping the Brightline connection will provide a new, eco-friendly transportation option for residents and visitors.

Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, District 1 Commissioner Jim Gray, District 3 Commissioner Robert Stuart and other community leaders celebrated GoBrightline reaching the halfway mark for construction on its extension to Orlando.

What politician doesn’t love a good photo op and the chance to sign a beam?!

Orlando leaders are also still not addressing the potential for Central Florida to lose time and money from tourist vacations with fast rail access to Miami and south Florida casinos. Orlando’s tourism from south Florida residents is strong throughout the year, but local leaders have largely ignored publicly addressing how to keep tourism dollars in Orlando as the Brightline network continues to expand.
