Brevard residents ride free on January 31

spacecoast2Still looking for a New Year’s resolution? Brevard County residents can resolve to try out their local bus service, starting with a free ride on Space Coast Area Transit’s fixed routes on Friday, January 31, 2014. Prospective riders must print a ticket from RideSCAT.com and present the ticket to the bus operator to board for free.

reThink, a program of the Florida Department of Transportation that promotes transportation options to commuters, has partnered with Space Coast Area Transit and Brevard Workforce to launch the first Resolve to reThink Your Commute day, which is set to be an annual event. The event will also mark the official launch of Route 7, now serving the Rockledge/Viera area.

The event will begin with a kick-off ceremony at 10:00 a.m. at Brevard Workforce, located at 297 Barnes Boulevard in Rockledge. Community leaders, including Brevard County Manager Howard Tipton, Space Coast Area Transit Director Jim Liesenfelt, and Brevard Workforce President Lisa Rice, will speak about the economic, business and environmental benefits of riding transit. In addition, Julie Bond, Program Manager at USF’s National Center for Transit Research, will award Space Coast Area Transit with their national designation as a “Best Workplace for Commuters.”

To print out your ticket to ride for free, visit RideSCAT.com. For more information about the event, contact reThink at 1-866-610-RIDE (7433) or visit www.reThinkYourCommute.com/resolve.
