Bondi Sues Two Mortgage Service Companies

Attorney General Pam Bondi is suing two companies in Broward County that market services that supposedly help homeowners facing foreclosure, saying they misled homeowners about what exactly they would provide.

The companies, MGD Management and CRS Marketing, marketed strategic default services they said would help consumers stay in their homes for three years without having to pay their mortgage and other obligations.

A judge also issued a temporary injunction and froze some of the companies’ assets as part of Bondi’s action, announced Thursday.

“These companies preyed on Florida’s distressed homeowners who were already experiencing financial hardships,” Bondi said in a statement. “The laws that protect Floridians from deceptive practices and homeowners during the course of a residential foreclosure must be abided by, and I am pleased that the court granted our motion to stop these companies from defrauding Floridians.”

Bondi has come under fire in the past from some advocates for homeowners after her office fired some attorneys who were seen by the advocates as aggressive in going after mortgage companies in fraud cases.
