Bank of America (BoA) recently unveiled $450,000 in funding — and $3.15 million to date — through its Neighborhood Excellence Initiative, which is designed to stimulate and sustain the local economy in Orlando and in communities across the country. Two high-impact nonprofit organizations, five community leaders and five high school student leaders in Orlando were honored for their leadership and proven community commitment.
The non-profit organizations were: (i) Jewish Family Services of Greater Orlando, which provides social services to at-risk children, needy families, frail elderly, homeless and mentally ill in Orange, Seminole and Osceola Counties and (ii) Shepherd’s Hope, of Orlando, which provides health care for the uninsured through nine free medical clinics.
The five community leaders honored were:
- Andrew Lane, of Orlando, will direct his grant to Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra
- Sabrina Carter, of Orlando, will direct her grant to Children’s Home Society of Florida MODEL Mentoring Program
- Julia Young, of Orlando, will direct her grant to Urban Think Foundation – Page 15, a youth literacy program
- Peter Schreyer, of Winter Park, will direct his grant to Crealde School of Art
- Ivy Fowler, of Orlando, will direct her grant to Tiger Den at Jones High School
In Orlando, the funding will address critical socioeconomic issues, including healthcare and youth literacy and the program is producing deep, long-lasting economic and social impact at the local level where it’s needed most.
The awards event which featured improve actors and two string quartets was held at the Orlando Repertory Theater on November 9th.
Since 2004, Bank of America has awarded $21 million in Florida.
