A CNN camerawoman who was pelted with peanuts and called an animal by two attendees at the Republican National Convention said, she wasn’t surprised at all.

34-year-old Patricia Carroll told Journal-isms on Thursday, she was stationed on the floor of the convention on Tuesday, next to Fox News, when she was assaulted by two men who threw peanuts at her head. She also said it got worse when they shouted, “This is what we feed the animals.”

I hate that it happened, but I’m not surprised at all,” Carroll said.

Carroll, a native of Alabama, added that such a situation could happen to her at the Democratic convention or standing on the street corner, as racism is a global issue.

This is Florida, and I’m from the Deep South,” she said. “You come to places like this, you can count the black people on your hand.”

Carroll told Journal-isms she wants to put the issue behind her and doesn’t want it politicized.

…This should be a wake-up call to black people. . . . People were living in euphoria for a while. People think we’re gone further than we have.”
