A bipartisan Florida congressional delegation sent a letter to President Joe Biden to call for a Major Disaster Declaration for Florida following Hurricane Ian.
A Major Disaster Declaration would significantly expand the federal aid available to individuals and public infrastructure.
U.S. Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott signed the letter along with U.S. Representatives Bill Posey, Kat Cammack, Michael Waltz, Gus Bilirakis, Mario Diaz-Balart, Neil Dunn, Vern Buchanan, Kathy Castor, Brian Mast, Ted Deutch, Stephanie Murphy, Carlos Gimenez, W. Gregory Steube, Debbie Wasserman Shultz, Maria Elvira Salazar, Scott Franklin, John Rutherford, Val Demings, Darren Soto, Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, Frederica Wilson, Al Lawson, Daniel Webster, Lois Frankel, Matt Gaetz, and Byron Donalds.
“I’m calling on President Biden to unlock significant additional aid to protect the health and safety of Floridians,” said Orlando Rep. Demings, who chairs the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Response, & Recovery. “Our aid to Florida families must be swift and it must be complete. By declaring a major disaster, we can unlock significant new assistance to make families and communities whole. I am committed to make sure that our communities have everything they need to stay safe and to rebuild.”
